Gym-based Rehabilitation

We are pleased to partner with and use the Vision's Fitness Centre (located in Hawthorn, Melbourne) as our exercise rehabilitation facility. Vision's is a proud member of the local community since 1984! Their state of the art facility suits our purposes perfectly, with all the equipment one might need to rehabilitate from injury.

Doing "rehab" is really about undergoing exercise (supervised and/or unsupervised) to make functional gains after injury, or to improve pain. This situation's unique for everyone and can mean everything from getting moving again when in pain, recovering from something more chronic, returning to sport or activity after an injury, or rehabilitating after a surgical procedure.

In the case of surgery, we look to work closely with your surgeon's orders to maintain that continuity of care all the way through. Programs can be developed by your physiotherapist and progressed from all functional levels; from the immediate post-op phase where
you might have a little more pain and movement limitation, require a gait aid or sling and activity modifications.. all the way through to return to activity, sport, etc

Pre-operative benefits of rehab

  • Optimise functional recovery post-surgery
  • Manage pain
  • Prevent muscle wastage
  • Education on pre and post-surgery expectations

Post-operative benefits

  • Regain functional capacity post-surgery
  • Improve muscle strength and range of motion
  • Education on post-surgery management and prognosis according to surgery protocol

We support a range of conditions in the gym (just to name a few):

  • Tendinopathy
  • ACL reconstruction
  • Shoulder surgery
  • Back pain/surgery
  • Arthroscopes
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Hip/knee replacements

What's the process for getting in the gym?

Initial Consultation:

  • You'll start with an Initial Appointment (New Patient) so we can get to know you condition, injury history, and individualised situation and goals
  • In your first appointment, we'll also conduct a thorough assessment to understand and get a baseline for your movement, control, strength, and current functional abilities
  • Education: we'll ensure we have a good chat about your condition, likely progress, and important considerations and advice for managing yourself in the early stages
  • Development of a tailored program: based on your unique situation, we'll put together a program for your first phase of rehab and make a plan for progress

Follow-up 1:1 in the gym:

  • After we've devised your first program, in most situations we'll recommend running through you program for the first time with your physiotherapist in a 1:1 consultation to ensure the devised program is suitable, that you can manage within an acceptable pain tolerance, and to modify any exercises and their dosages accordingly

Follow-up programs:

  • Everyone's situation and goals are unique, and pending progress and a discussion with your physio, we'll make a time to review where you're at an devise a program for your next phase of rehab
